Centuries ago, before the advent and
large-scale adoption of mechanized farming, the world depended on tedious
manual labor for agricultural processes. Food production was unsurprisingly limited in the
country, and with a growing population in Nigeria, scarcities were projected
to occur. Today, however, against the backdrop of the technological revolution,
farmers have switched to a more mechanized system of operations and use of agric
friendly application, and in so doing effectively laid to rest the limitations
of the past. Technology now forms the bedrock of modern agricultural practices,
and as it continues to evolve, the agricultural sector is also evolving to
exploit nascent efficiencies.
Nigeria is not producing
enough of what we eat and not exporting enough to earn foreign exchange, with
these in mind the government is taking a sharp turn towards diversifying the
economy from oil to farming by encouraging more agricultural activities in the
country. At commodity.ng we are driven by great passion to redefine the whole
sector by use of technology friendly methods to reduce extortion of
agricultural producers by market forces and middlemen within and outside the
country.
With every wave of technological advancement,
agricultural innovators like commodity.ng develop even more novel and practical
solutions to existing agricultural challenges. The team in commodity.ng are
very keen to coming up with innovative solutions to help agricultural stakeholders
across the country. One might be wondering just how commodity.ng’s innovation
has affected agriculture in Nigeria.

engaging them with new technological innovations they can adopt through our

Nigerian trader from direct negative foreign influence at the same time

COMMODITY.NG
AND THE NIGERIAN AGRICULTURAL SECTOR.
Our Technology is giving
local, rural farmers A Fighting Chance
In Nigeria -- where unchecked
desertification, crop pests and
diseases and a persistent
lack of infrastructure continue to threaten agriculture – Our resarch
facilitated technology is providing a much-needed lifeline to remedy the
situation. Farmers in Nigeria are being sensitized on the internet of things
through our platform (www.commodity.ng) and are conversely using these
technologies to better their production and distribution capabilities.
We are helping to improve
the Scalability of Agriculture
So many problems within the sector has led
the team in coming up with more sophisticated and efficient methods of
undertaking agricultural practices. Mechanized farming is all but standard in
developed nations, and now with significant advancements in the field of
robotics and sensing technologies, robots are being incorporated into the farm
setting. The team is planning to bring down a functional unit of
such a robotic harvester capable of harvesting one strawberry every two seconds
(compared to humans, who pick 15-20 per minute) to the country.
Our
technology is revolutionizing the sector in the country.
In the past, farmers lived in close proximity
to the consumers (buyers) of their products. Today, against the backdrop
of globalization, some farm produce is cultivated thousands of miles away from
where it is consumed. For instance, most of the world’s coffee is produced
in Brazil and Vietnam; however, coffee users enjoy the product all
over the world. The logistics and technicalities involved in making this
happen are possible by virtue of our website which we integrated into the agriculture
sector of the country. Our planned High-tech
storage facilities now mean farm produce can be stored for more
extended periods, or if the need is for an indefinite period, by preprocessing.
Aside from propagating productivity and profitability, these improved storage
mechanisms cut down wastage, something that was formerly commonplace in the
sector.
The
team at commodity.ng are very optimistic and believe they have the right intellect
and will power to come up with more innovations that will help to improve the
sectors and the overall activities of everyone involved in the sector.
