As humans, we usually get
so attached to our traditional way of life that in the event where we are
expected to change, we see it as something we can’t do. Take for example, the
issue of smoking, there are many people who smokes and will want to quit
smoking and it’s not that they can’t just stop themselves from smoking but the
problem is they are so use to doing it that leaving it will look like they are
giving up a very big part of their lives. So for an average person accepting to
change his old way will take time and dedication especially from the change
agent who is trying to change him. We have been able to come up with a few

Making any kind of change
in a person’s life requires a leap of faith from that person. People view
change as moving towards a direction of the unknown on the hope for something
better that is not guaranteed. Taking that step is risky and people will only
take that step if they truly believe in the result of change. Which mean they
must be convinced that the risk of standing still is greater than that of
taking the step toward change. If you are trying to preach change to people be
sure to use numbers, we are all educated people and we believe in facts and
figures to make decisions in our lives.
PEOPLE HAVE NO ONE TO LOOK UP TO AS

As human beings we learn
through observational learning by looking at the people around us and doing
close to exactly what we see them doing. When people hear about change part of
the things they do is they try to find other people who have gone through
similar journey and use their testimony as a major reason behind accepting the
change atmosphere. People believe what they can see and are in agreement with
the saying that states ‘Seeing is believing’. When people see that others have
achieved the change they want, it changes their mind set from it cant be done
to how can we do it.

Humans are very social, which makes us very connected to our
old ways of doing things even if some time it leads to our own detriment. Been
loyal to your believes and following your heart certainly helped our ancestors
in protecting themselves from any kind of harm and most of the great
visionaries of our time attained that level because they stood by their
principles and not changed their minds. So with this at the back of our mind
most people feel if they stood by their old believes it will lead them to more
success in life, though they forget that the world is changing faster than ever
and as that people need to change their ways as time goes.
PEOPLE FEAR THAT THEY LACK THE
REQUIRED SKILLS TO CHANGE

Most at times change require us to kind of acquire some new
skills or talent that we don’t possess and to learn one or two things that we
don’t know. This makes people to fear that they lack the necessary skills for
them to change and they view the process of learning such skills as hectic and
stressful. A lot of people feel insecure about their competence and many times feel
they can’t do something. The fact is that some of them may be right but in many
cases most of them are just having unrealistic fear of something that is not
true. For example a shy person trying to change into a social person might feel
he/she can’t do it, especially when he sees someone that is very social and he
socialize with people but in real sense that fear is unrealistic because come
to think about it, the shy person has almost every feature the social person
possess but that fake fear will always keep him feeling he can never be as
social as the social person.
PEOPLE DON’T TRUST CHANGE AGENT

Judging by history, change agents could be motely sometimes.
One can never fully trust a change agent. Looking back in time some of the
greatest tragedies happen as a result of would be change agent who believe they
know what is best for everyone. If you are on a journey to promote change among
a group of people be rest assured that people will term you a scammer and some
would even go as far as insulting you to your face.
